2010 Partner Transformation Champions
Our Partner Challenge involved all different types of partners - best friends, mothers and daughters, sisters, husbands and wives, and work colleagues. No matter what type of partnership was involved, there was something that was common to all - partners are an essential support when making these healthy lifestyle changes. They motivate you, they lift you up when you are feeling down and they are your biggest cheerleader.
And the Partner Transformation Champions are......

Wendy's Success Story
My name is Wendy Collins, I am 52 years old and I have 4 children aged from 24 - 14 years.
Over the years my weight has yo-yo'd, however each time I gained weight, I would get bigger. At my heaviest, I weighed 124kgs.
I felt very low in my self esteem, I hated myself, I hated shopping, and was generally sad most of the time.
In the past I had tried meal replacement shakes and even skipping meals, but then I would get hungry and eat even more. I had tried to exercise. I have always liked walking, and have lost weight before by riding an exercise bike, but my knee got bad and the handles broke off, and I couldn't replace it because of finances. Well that was my excuse anyway.

With my daughters wedding and this challenge as motivation, I decided that I was going to do what ever it took to get healthy, long term results. This process has helped me realise how important it is to eat correctly and to exercise every day.
Here is a sample of what I ate:
Breakfast: Any of the following - Diet yoghurt, Porridge with skim milk, bran flakes with banana and skim milk, piece of wholemeal toast with vegemite and low fat cheese, or poached egg on toast and a piece of fruit.
Lunch: 2 slices of wholegrain bread with either of the following, Ham, or chicken or cheese, or Tuna or salmon with salad - lots of leafy greens.
Dinner: Fish, Chicken or lean meat, with either salad consisting of leafy greens, free vegies (chargrilled or steamed), piece of fruit and low fat custard or yoghurt.
Snacks: Low joule soup, or a few almonds. I also drank lots of water.

Every morning I walked for 45 mins with my husband Garry, who has also lost 14 kgs, on the beach with our dog and would add some short sprints of running only for about 1 min, as I was too big to run any further. A couple of times a week I would do deep water running in the pool along with laps for about 1 hour. The pool is about 10 metres. My body needs to get toned now, so that is one of my new goals.
The Busy Mums Fitness Club really helped me. I would constantly refer to the articles on the website for encouragement and any new ideas. I love to hear about others who have achieved weight loss as this inspires me to do the same. Sherah was always there to encourage me to keep going with compliments that always made me feel so good about myself.
The biggest key to my success, my driving motivation, was my daughter's up-in-coming wedding. I wanted to look at the photos and say to myself "I look good". I did not want any more fat photos, especially at such a special event.
My family were a wonderful support, especially my husband. He loves me regardless, but has always said I have to be happy with myself, as this had an effect on how I see others. Now when I put on the red top in my before photos, it falls off me, and I feel great to be able to wear my jeans again.
I think that losing weight should be a lifestyle change, and not just something you do for a little while. I don't call it a diet, I call it a healthy living plan. This is now my life and I feel fantastic. I still have a way to go to reach my health and fitness goals, and I know that Busy Mum Fitness Club can help me achieve that success. But I am on my way and loving the journey as I know that I will live a longer, healthier and happier life with my husband and children.
Gary's Success Story

Garry commenced the challenge at 92kg and lost 15.22% of his total body weight. He now boasts a healthy 78kg and looks fantastic!

The reason I started to lose weight was because I found out that I had developed Type 2 Diabetes during a checkup at the doctors. I had gradually, over a period of time, begun to gain weight due to lack of exercise and eating larger portions. My doctor explained to me some of the health related issues that diabetics suffered and the consequences of not having a healthy lifestyle. He advised me to make some changes to my life and that these needed not be drastic or severe but that a slow and steady approach and a real change in attitude would make the world of difference.
I found myself at an amazing 92kgs which I had never experienced before, I had tendonitis in both my achilles tendons and got puffed quite easily with minimal exertion. After hovering around 70kgs all my life this was something new to me and that visit to the doctor made it easy to make a change.
The way that I lost the weight was very simple. I ate less and healthier and began a regular routine of exercise which consisted mainly of walking for ½ an hour to an hour. I cut out most of the processed sugar in my previous diet and instead ate natural sugars from real food and fruits. I was rarely, if ever during that time, hungry. I ate good food and enough of it to be satisfied and happy.
I found that within a couple of weeks I was shedding kgs quite easily and had more stamina and less lethargy and tiredness, which I experienced previously nearly every day - especially after eating. The tendonitis began to disappear and I felt fantastic. I had tons of energy and could actually run like I used to and not get tired or winded. A simple approach to a healthy lifestyle made all the difference in losing 14kgs. I have also had the joy of watching my wife Wendy, also over a 12 week period, change dramatically in size and increase in energy and happiness as she has followed the successful patterns of a healthy busy mum, combining regular fun exercise and enjoying a planned, healthy and delicious eating menu.
